In the Euro NCAP crash test the Passat achieved the top five-star rating for occupant protection. The test proves that the Passat safely protects both adults and children, based among other factors on its highly robust passenger cell. Further protection is provided by the passenger restraint systems, as well as intelligent active safety elements such as the electronic stabilisation program ESP and adaptive cruise control ACC.

Multi-function steering wheel

User-friendly innovation

The starting and locking system with radio remote control features a world first: the convenient “Press & Drive” start function in the dashboard. A transmitter, which is also used to operate the central locking, is inserted into the unit to the right of the steering wheel. Pressing it starts the engine. This is a real boost to convenience levels, as there is no need for an ignition key in the conventional sense.
Sliding/tilting glass roof

The sliding/tilting glass roof is operated via a rotary switch in the headlining. An integral positioning option can be set to control how far the roof is to be opened or tilted. A highly sensitive electronic power limiter stops the roof as soon as it encounters the resistance.
