How to protect the glass of your car

Most people pay a lot of attention and spend a good deal on enhancing the interior and exterior of their vehicles. Few bother to take good care of an all-important aspect: the glass of the vehicle.

The glass of your vehicle plays a number of important functions:
* In the first place, just think if there was no glass and just an open space - birds would come to roost, four legged creatures would enter to snooze, and thieves would make merry! So the glass keeps out all those unwanted denizens.
* Rain, flying leaves, grit and dust are all kept out by the vehicle's glass.
* The glass acts as a buffer against strong winds
* Specially coated glass keeps the passengers in a shady mood from harsh sunbeams.

Did you know?
* The windshield glass in your vehicle is not just a single sheet - it generally consists of two glass sheets with an interlying laminated plastic sheet.
* The side and rear windows of the vehicle do not have ordinary glass - they are curved tempered glass sheets.
* The vehicle's glass goes through a heated process that makes the sheets extra strong and not likely to create rough fragments when hit.

Cleaning the Glass: The vehicle's glass should always be gently wiped clean with a soft cloth. Find out how to keep your car shine like new? - you can ask at reputed petrol pumps and repair garages.

Insuring the Glass: When you are getting insurance for your vehicle, ensure that the glass too is covered for damages - not just the windshield, but all the glass of the vehicle.

Replacing the Glass: Yes! You should not assume that when a ball in a game of gulli cricket lands on the glass and creates merely a minor crack, that the glass can remain. That one crack can expand over time and drastically weaken the glass. It is standard to merely take the vehicle to the nearest repair garage and apply some kind of tape & solution to seal the crack. That is exactly what you should not do - it is merely a temporary solution to the problem. To prevent danger to the vehicle occupants, the glass must be replaced in its entirety. Just think about what would happen if by chance the vehicle is involved in an accident and that hastily repaired glass shatters....

So take good care of that glass in your car!
