Before buying a backpack for the camping / hiking / trekking trip you have to note down all the things you need for the trip. Do not ever underestimate the value of a good back pack.

1. You have to identify your needs so as to decide how much to take and how long you are planning to travel etc. Think of all the things you need and make out a list, it will be easier if you carry light and less luggage and what you need the most. It will be difficult for you if the backpack is big and difficult to carry.
Only after you list out all your needs you will be able to estimate the size of the backpack you will need. then when you go to the shop you can discuss about your needs and choose a right size pack for yourself.
2. Comfort is the next key word as you will not like to carry a backpack which you do not feel comfortable in or which doesn't suit you. It would be better if you could ask the salesperson to fill the backpack with materials sot hat you will able to check out how it will be when you carry it.
