About Big Bazaar
Big Bazaar is the biggest retailer shop spreading in cities/towns across the India. The idea of Big Bazaar came up at beginning year of the new decade, 2001. The idea of establishing such shops were started with opening of the Big Bazaar of its own style in the three major cities of India - Calcutta, Bangalore and Hyderabad simultaneously beginning from September 2001. With the success of Big Bazaar in the three cities it grows throughout India and today the number of Big Bazaars are as much as 148 in 80 cities and towns

Usually a Big Bazaar is spread around 50000 square feet area. In larger metropolitan city its area is 75000 square feet. Big Bazaar is mostly multi- level and stands in a lone building in centre of the city. It is a part of Future Group and is owned through a wholly owned subsidiary of Pantaloon India Limited. They have very good car parking facilities.
Growth of Big Bazaar
Chronologically, the growth of Big Bazaars can be accounted within a span of 10 years as follows-
2001: Big Bazaar was launched in three cities Kolkata Bangalore and Hyderabad.
2002: Big Bazaar launched the ICICI Bank Card and the Food Bazaar store in Mumbai at High Street.
2003: With the launch of the store in Nagpur it enters Tier II cities.
2004: It got national recognition by wining its first award. It was awarded as the country's most admired retailer award for value retailing and food retailing at India Retail Forum.
2005: In its central warehouse in Tarapur it initiated the performance of SAP and Pilots a RFID projects. Launches a new exchange offer shopping program in which the customer can exchange the household refuse at Big Bazaar. In the same year it lunched the electronic Bazaar and the Furniture Bazaar.
2006: India's first credit card program tailored for housewives called Shakti and Navaras the jewellery store launches in the same year.
2007: Big Bazaar launched its 50th store in Kanpur.
2008: With the launch of its 101st store it becomes the fastest growing hypermarket in the world. In the same year it joins the league of India's Business Super brands. It is among the top ten service brands in the country in the latest pitch- IMRB international survey.
2009: It starts a program of offering food for the visitors and support local social organizations in south India
