Manohar Review Those who step in to dine on the vegetarian cuisine will have to put up with the extremely cramped seating arrangements. By cramped, I mean really cramped. Remember the time when your mother said to tuck in your elbows when seated at the dining table? Well, you need to definitely tuck them in literally here, as otherwise your elbow will be hitting your neighbour! No slouching, too, as beneath the table your knees could be knocking against the person sitting opposite – embarrassing or romantic depending on who is dining on the opposite side! So there I was with a friend at my side, seated across an ordinary table opposite two complete strangers, feet a safe distance away. Naturally, sharing a table with strangers does not encourage any private conversation, so it was a silent dining experience.
Coming to the food – well, it was astonishingly good! I say ‘astonishingly' because when you see the ordinary-looking décor and cramped space, you do have initial doubts about the menu listings. The food was well worth the uncomfortable seating, believe me. The batata vadas and sabudana vadas (Rs.18/- per plate) were a bit oily, but nevertheless delicious. The masala dosa (Rs.25/-) was crisp and well-done. The accompanying sambhar too was fabulous the chutney, though, was strictly ok. The veg. grilled sandwich (Rs. 45/-) was also surprisingly good, without any burnt edges that are sometimes typical of grilled bread. Slurping down a good-sized glass of fresh orange juice, we left the restaurant with a satisfied burp, vowing to come again to try out the lunch menu – never mind the cramped space!
Note : No parking is permitted in front of the restaurant. It faces the road and is located adjacent to the high-profile Sena Bhavan so you will have to scout around the Shivaji Park ground located down the road across the signal for parking space, and then walk back to dine here.
