Review: Reassuring SUV
Review By: vk    Review Date: 08 Jan 2009

The first impression of the Scorpio W is that it has good height and gives a feeling of reassurance. While this impression comes across very well in the power of the SUVs engine, it was not reassuring to see the absence of airbags. Also, the interiors were nothing great - apparently, customers have to make-do with the given upholstery colours as there are no customised options given by the dealer.

The ride was fairly comfortable in light traffic, but a bit of a drag during heavy traffic and one could feel the vehicle rolling a bit. For a long journey, the Scorpio W is not at all ideal. The seats are upright and the rear seats have little leg room. Also, storage space is disappointingly limited.

Well, I test drove Innova, Safari Dicor, SX4 and Scorpio SLX as well as VLX, the only one that won my heart and mind was Scorpio VLX. I bought it about 3 weeks back and have already done 3500kms...

I took her straight to rajasthan for a family holiday.

Few things that i Like about her
1) It gave me mileage of 13/14 on the entire trip as i never went above 100kmph (the break-in period is 1000 kms on the owners manual but i will wait till 5000km i.e. 1st service). I consider this great mileage given that the Gujrat highway was under construction and i got bad traffic for about 200/250 kms.
2) 7 Ppl were really comfortable in the car, i have bought the captain seat version.
3) Driving for long hours was not very uncomfortable, I have done a couple of long drives in my Accent as well as Esteem, Scorpio is more comfortable. Cruise control rocks specially on expressways.
4) Did some off-road driving in ranthambore it was really awesome, was paisa wasool drive for me. Cant imagine taking a car for such a drive it had to be a scorpio.
5) All the extra feature like tyre pressure, auto lights and wipers are quite useful but the cruise control and Audio settings on the steering are really awesome.
6) Handling is very easy never did i miss any for my old cars, in fact scorpio made me realize what i was missing in my previous trips.

I really fell in love with Scorpio during my trip, Im back in Mumbai now, driving in the city is a pain (Traffic sucks) she keeps telling me to set her free, but Im too conscious speeding in the city, may be will take her on another small trip during the weekend.

I have not found too may things that irritate me in this beauty apart from the suspension it gives me a feeling that i'm in a small boat.

My little daughter used to hate sitting in the car for more than an hour (may be she felt claustrophobic) but she absolutely loves the scorpio. Nothing more a dad can ask for.

Will definitely post another one after the first service is done. This is my first post hope u find it useful.

Well it's was my pleasure to ride the all new scorpio vlx powered by mahindra m-hawk engine (2.2 liter).
I have tried all the versions of scorpio and from all the rest this one is by fast the
best, its silent, zippy and very very easy to drive.
the looks are this car are just like the scorpio slx crde (2.6 liter) but the square decales seprate it from the other scorpio's.
This SUV is loaded with electronic gizmos which only few higher segments vehicles offer, like TPS ( tyre presure monitering system), Rain Sensor wipers, light sensors, sensor parkning assitant, etc etc.
This SUV is for the long drives and you wont be disappointed if you take this 120 bhp monster on the expres

s highways............. Just put this monster in Cruse Control and it will keep its present speed as long as you want just sit and let the SUV ride itself at the set speed really very confortable for self driving.
More over the glasses of this monster are solar and get a bit dark in sunlight........
Over all the SUV is really good and the prise of the vehicle is just on the edge of being right.

After all quality comes with some prise and well i promise that you wont feel that you paid more for the vehicle, its gives you value for ur money what if its almost 11 lakhs on road............ still worth it ........ after all nothing else will do....

If you havent heard of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) yet, the Indian automaker, you arent alone. Founded in 1945, the companys main market is India but the automaker does export some of its vehicles to western Europe, Russia, South Africa, and Malaysia. However, the company now has its eye on the lucrative US market, with plans to ship its cutting edge Mahindra Scorpio pickup truck to America beginning in 2009.

Will the company follow through on its plans and how will consumers react to an Indian made truck? That remains to be seen, but the seeds have already been planted. Please read on for more information about this interesting car company.

Mahindra sees a big hole in the small truck segment, one that the company intends to fill. Sure, the Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, and the Chevy Colorado are among the many small trucks available for sale in the US, but Mahindra has something in mind that no other truck offers: at least one version of its Mahindra Appalachian pick up will be a diesel-electric hybrid, an unusual, but potentially highly beneficial truck that the company believes will be warmly received.

Sporting a 2.2L diesel, the standard Appalachian should deliver 30-35 mpg, which is much higher than the class leading 26 mpg for the base Ranger, but the hybrid model would likely top 40 mpg for a truck expected to cost under $25,000.

At present, Mahindra still needs to make sure that that the Appalachian passes stringent US emissions and safety requirements before the truck can go on sale. In addition, a dealer network has to be set up something that could delay the trucks debut unless the company turns to its existing Mahindra Tractor dealerships to sell the truck, a network already in place across the US. In that case, Mahindra would have a ready made pool of dealers available who are already selling Mahindra products to the same customers who the company thinks would purchase the Appalachian: farmers.

We dont yet know much about the Appalachian other than to say it could be a real game changer for the pick up truck market. Though diesel fuel is about seventy-five cents higher than regular gasoline, it is about 30% more fuel efficient. Choose a hybrid and that difference will boost fuel economy by at least 50%, something many American farmers would likely embrace.

Quality is one concern that could scuttle the Mahindra, but the good money is on Mahindra to get that right before the trucks debut.
