Product: Pentax K-m / K2000

Review: One of the best entry level DSLRs
Review By: Latha Jayaprakash    Review Date: 28 Mar 2009

Pentax has announced its 10.2 mp DSLR camera for the entry level market. The box kit contains two lenses, one the 18-55mm f /3.5-5.6 DAL and a 50-200mmf/4-5.6 DAL
These two lenses have been reengineered to suit the K-m and are elegantly compact and beautifully lightweight.
The kit is very attractive for the beginners and is available in the limited budget scheme.

The K-m has an image sensor shifting shake reduction system ( SR ), which makes a slight noise while it is in use. With this facility Pentax can keep the cost of the lenses low in the future. The camera has a trial picture facility to set the right WB for a particular situation and it also has an additional feature called sensitivity Prioritry which is not present in the other cameras.
With this mode as soon as you select the ISO the camera selects the exposure. So you will find it easier to adjust the ISO easily as per your needs.
For the entry level beginners the camera has alot of ranges for the scene modes , digital filters like green, yellow, orange, red, magenta, blue, cyan and infrared etc, which gives different effects.
You can eoither create a Toy camera mode or choose from other effects like High Contrast, soft, star burst, retro, extra colour and so on.
You can also save files in the negative format, .dng files besides .pef format. This .dng format can be used to archive photographs using the Adobe Systems.

This model K-m resembles K200D but is smaller , the top LCD panel is absent , there are fewer buttons and no weather sealing. A menu system is used instead of the buttons and is immensely useful while navigating.

where it loses some valuable poinbts is in the focusing options. there are 5 focus points, but you can only use either muliple -point focusing or only the centre point focusing.you will not be able to choose single point other than centre point unlike in the other cameras.
It is compatible with Lithium, NiMHand alkaline batteries.Spare batteries are portable and economical and alkaline batteries are available everywhere i India nad so Indians should not feel these batteries difficult to handle with.

This has not yet come to India ( but expected to very soon ), when it comes the cost will be around Rs,45000
