Light Art Review When you are thinking of lighting up your home with something unique, visit the Light Art showroom in Alwarpet, Chennai. Keep in mind, though, that you need really deep pockets as a majority of the lights here are on the really high side. The showroom is easy to locate – if you are approaching from Adyar, keep your eyes to the left and you will see the red and white storied building soon enough.
The ground floor of the showroom is really spacious. The minute you step inside, you will be greeted by a very efficient staff member – in fact, he is one of the best I have come across he is a fount of knowledge of every single product. Simply point to an item and he will tell you not just its source, but also where the particular light can be placed in your home / office, whether or not it consumes high wattage, etc. Unfortunately, I was not permitted to take photographs of the products inside but do visit the Light Art website and see their products.
As you enter, look up and note the 3-blade fan (each blade a different colour). This is not just a fan but also a light! It is an Italian product that even has a remote for all those too lazy to get up to reach for the wall switches. On your left are various shapes and sizes of simple wall lights and ceiling chandeliers. Next to these what catches your eye is a chandelier that is pure white – this has Egyptian-sourced crystals that give a pretty touch to the chandelier. On the right side of the receptionist's desk don't forget to see the unusual clocks lining the wall. The salesman will then take you up to the first floor. The passage just outside the second floor section has got beautiful Swarovski tiny bulbs embedded in the ceiling. These throw pretty floral shadows around them. Equally mesmerizing are the lighting systems inside, where sleek, contemporary designed lights are displayed. Blown glass globules, flat glass planes, diamond-shaped drops hanging down from a rod … all these are well-placed so you don't bump into anything as you move around. There are some more Swarivski ceiling lights, with the colours of the spectrum winking at you. An unusual wall lamp that caught my attention was one that changed colour as you moved across – from pink to blue! One of the most beautiful designs I saw here was the lotus-shaped lamp that hung from the ceiling. It is available in three sizes (small, medium, large) and looks truly ethereal. The second floor had mainly soft lighting systems for bathrooms and such and various bathroom fittings.
All in all, though I am not likely to buy the high-priced lights, it was worth a visit for an en‘light'ening experience!
