Canon PowerShot SX10 IS Review

Its almost an year and a half since my brother got this camera. And since then it has been a awesome performer and even i have clicked on it non stop in many occasions. I love using it and find it one the best bridge camera in the market.
I shall briefly jot down the features that i liked in this camera and also the issues i found irritating for and explain them.

+++The Pros:-

* This camera incorporates a 10.3 megapixel CCD (charged couple device)which gives an effective 10 Megapixel image. I personally like the color crispness of the CCD sensor and is great for low light applications.

* It has a 35mm film equivalent: 28-560mm of focal length lens giving it a massive 20x optical zoom factor. And considering the difficulty of making a good lens that can cover so broad a focal range its a significant improvement.

* It also features a DIGIC 4 processor on board which is typically featured in the Canons DSLR range of camera.

* Another great feature is the flip and twist able swivel LCD allowing the camera to be used at various angles without having the photographer to bend himself into award positions.

* Canon has incorporated Canons Servo AF, the companys AF tracking mode in this camera for continuous hassle free auto focus so that when ever this feature is active the camera automatically and continuously auto focuses the scene and displays a sharp image on the display even without needing to half depressing the shutter button of the camera.

* Rest of the features are PASM, full auto and a some of scene modes. The custom setting mode is lovely and also features 3.9-inch macro and zero(!)-inch Super Macro modes.

* It supports 30fps VGA movie capture. The best part is that the camera has a set of separated stereo mics on the left and the right side of the camera in the front above the lens.
Another very important feature is it can zoom and that too quietly during recording.

* This camera features a EVF or the Electronic view finder instead of the optical view finder and hence all the effects of parallax are eliminated when using it.

* Its comes with a built in Optical Image Stabilization that uses a lens shift method to stabilize the image when your holding the camera with hands and hence gives sharp and crisp images. I found this feature really useful when shooting zoomed in subjects as the effects of shake are more pronounced specially when you zoom the subject. And hence avoid blurry images even without using the tripod.

-The Cons:-

* This camera is on the bulkier side and a reason may be contributed to its huge zoom lens and so its not very easy easy to carry like the other point and shoot cameras but that assures you those great quality images.

* I also found the servo focus annoying at times as it would focus badly at various places and also the use of the servo focus during macro shots is a bad idea as it created a lot of out of focus situations.

* Also the focusing correctly at macro mode takes a bit of time and tends to go out of focus.

* The LCD display is on the smaller size of just being 2.5 inches when most other products in the category sports 3 inch displays but that may be due to the swiveling feature of the LCD that canon has kept it small.

* The Electronic View Finder could have been better as it is difficult to check if the focus is correct through it and the image seems pixelated.
Also, switching between the EVF and the LCD is a mess.

Finally, this camera is overall a great camera with the loads of features it has. I am in love with it. A nice camera for nature photography. Its great for a beginner and amateur photographers also it is even worth for semi-pros as it eliminates the need of carrying the load of equipments and proves as a very useful and is a all in one point and shoot bridge camera.
