Mount Abu Review
I have been to Mount Abu at least four times in my life and I yet to discover what makes me visit this place so often. It is beautiful, scenic and enchanting. This place offers one a great relaxation, along with a calming and soothing effect on our minds.
Mount Abu, the ‘Oasis of Rajasthan' is around 185 km from Udaipur. It is one of the highest peaks of the Aravali range, at the elevation of 22 km by 9 km. It lies in the Sirohi district of Rajasthan. Mount Abu is exactly 58 km from Palanpur, Gujarat and hence forms a retreat hub for most of the people of Gujarat due to its proximity. But then, this place has its own share of visitors from all over the world.
The best way to reach Mount Abu is by train (Aravli express). Once you reach Abu road station, you find lots of private taxis, daily plying to Mount Abu, they mostly have a fixed rate, but you can always bargain. It is generally a one hour journey, as you need to climb the hill. The vehicles could be hired privately or there are shared vehicles that charge you pretty less.
One can find various accommodation facilities in Mount Abu. The few well known hotels in Mount Abu are Hotel Hillock, Hotel Heritage Palace, and Hotel Aranya Village. The rates of these hotels are more or less same and provide good service.
Mount Abu is known world wide for its Dilwara temples. Dilwara temples exhibit the finest Jain architecture and marble work expertise. These temples may seem a bit simpler from outside, but the interiors of these temples display an exceptional human mastery. These temples were built in 13th century AD, and the minute work of the carved ceilings and the marble carvings is stupendous.
The Sunset point provides a breathtaking view of the Sunset. But the worst part about being in this place is the monkey menace. These monkeys are very dangerous and one needs to be extra careful, with food items, as these monkeys are expert enough in snatching them from you.
The Nakki Lake is another most visited point in Mount Abu. Perfect for boating this place is ideally to be visited in the evenings, as the view is superb from here. This lake is enveloped by mountains and gardens and thus makes an excellent source for some good photography.
Gurusikhar is one of the best must visited points in Mount Abu. Gurusikhar is the highest peak of Mount Abu, and by standing on this peak one gets to see the picturesque view of the whole Mount Abu town and the mountain ranges. One should make it a point to visit this place when in Mount Abu, as one gets to capture the complete glimpse of the town from here.
The Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary provides some good sight seeing options along with the various species of flora and fauna. The sanctuary is a home to around 200 species of birds and animals including the wild boar, langur, chinkara and leopards.
There are various food joints in Mount Abu, near the market serving Gujarathi and Rajasthani delicacies. Shopping in Mount Abu includes lac jewelry, silver jewelry, some local printed clothes and marble artifacts.
Mount Abu can be visited throughout the year, though summers are bit crowded. The temperature is pleasant throughout, especially at a lower side in the nights.
