Review: A Great Music Phone.
Review By: Sourav Jana    Review Date: 27 May 2009

I have owned this mobile now for almost two years now. And i totally love this phone since then and yet not frustrated of using it as it has everything i need. Its a music phone from Sony Ericsson. And has superb sound quality which surpasses the quality of many standalone mp3 players in the market. It came with a good quality in-ear noise isolation ear buds and a hands free that had a regular 3.5mm stereo jack to which you can plug in your standard headphones. I normally connect it to my computer speakers when i want to listen it loud. Also i sometimes plug it into my guitar amplifier for practice sessions for playing backing up track. It works great. It also features a stereo FM receiver that supports RDS and is a great companion at times for me.

Though this phone is meant to be a music phone from Sony Ericsson and comes with their proprietary Walkman logo, it sports an awesome camera. It has a auto focus camera which is mostly featured in its camera series phones. Generally, the Walkman series phone doesnt come with such great quality camera. So, W810i is an exception in that respect. It has a 2 Megapixel auto focus camera along with LED flash. The camera performs reasonably good and its focus perfectly focuses macro subjects too in the macro mode. Also, interestingly it is able to zoom to 4x even when shooting at the 1632*1224 resolution, though this feature is disabled in many other Sony Ericsson models. It can shoot videos in 3gp format also. The camera is equipped with a dual LED flash light placed just above the camera lens. Other great feature is that one can use this flash to use it as a flash light at times of emergency and darkness. It proves as a really handy tool especially for a country like ours where power power cuts are so common. I have often found myself using it to search the emergency lantern in case of blackouts. And in fact its so bright and powerful that i have used it as an light source of hours at times. One bad side to the camera is that it protrudes a little outside in the back though that makes its look a bit awkward. It also lacks a lens cover and so the lens is prone to scratches.

It supports external memory cards of up to 4Gb. And uses the Memory Stick Pro Duo a proprietary storage card technology from Sony which is normally found in its digital cameras, camcorders and other recording devices. Initially it came bundled with a 512Mb memory card, which i later upgraded to 4Gb to satisfy my music and photography needs. And so now it matches to the capacity of a standalone Mp3 player. One this i have found is that the mobile phone operates slower when the memory card is almost full to the 4Gb capacity as accessing data gets slower. But this is a common problem in all mobiles.

It features a 262k color, 176 x 220 LCD screen though it is good enough but i have always felt it could have a better resolution. It supports 3D java games of which i am a frequent player and keep on downloading new games.

Features a picture phone book and interestingly you can back up your phone book in your memory card so that you can recover your contacts back in cases of accidental loss or deletion of the phone book.
Has Bluetooth, USB, Infra-red, Fast port connectivity options.Supports WAP 2.0, GPRS, EDGE for browsing on phone and mobile internet. Its a quad band mobile phone. It also features 40-voice polyphonic ring tones, MP3 & AAC ring tones so that you never get bored out.

Other than its multimedia capabilities its over all a good mobile phone. Its durable and i have dropped it a number of time and luckily it escaped getting damaged. Has good sound clarity and signal reception. It also supports recording of phone calls.

Over all its a very good quality mobile phone with all necessary features built in for satisfying needs for all its user.
