Review: For a professional who enjoys his personal space
Review By: RajmiArun    Review Date: 09 Sep 2008

A bar shaped smart phone from Nokia is very useful for both business and personal usage. The phone is a member of the N-Series of Nokia.

The phone is designed elegantly to appeal. The casing is smooth and the edges are curved. The casing comes in two colours, Canvas White and Seal Grey. The colours that comes to change with the white casing are sea blue, olive green and espresso brown. The seal grey comes with ezpresso brown, white and coral red. The phone supports Xpress on Smart Covers which changes the theme in the screen according to the colour chosen for the cover.

The phone is very light in weight when compared to the features that is enhanced with. The phone can be handled single handedly unlike many other 3G phones. The N79 kit comes with the Xpress on covers (so one need not pay for it separately), battery charger, battery, connectivity cable, music headset, user guide and 4 GB micro SD card.

The screen of the phone is quite large it is a 2.4 inches screen that allows the user to view the documents and browse the net with great ease. The brightness and colour of the screen can be adjusted and the inbuilt night sensor allows the user to view the screen clearly according to the surroundings.

The internet browser gives a great internet experience with mini maps support. HTML, XHTML and WML browsers are supported y this phone. The faster technologies enriched in this phone allows the user to gain the fastest transfer of files with best connectivity to other devices and internet. The user can enjoy multitasking if they own this mobile. The wi-fi technology allows the user to gain wireless connectivity in the hotspots. The USB post allows the user to gain connection to devices that are compatible.

The phone comes with an inbuilt memory of 50MB which could be expandable upto 8GB though the phone comes with 4GB. As the phone supports quadband technology, roaming all over the world with this phone is easier. It supports WCDMA also.

The phone is inbuilt with an integrated music player that allows the user to listen to their choice of music on the move or whenever they feel like. The screen supports the music player with playlists and graphic equaliser. The search option is very large, the user can search by artist name, genre or by the name of the album. The dedicated volume key allows the user to adjust the volume easily.

The inbuilt FM radio is supported by RDS. The text service that is provided for the user while listening to music. The user can view the artist name and even the lyrics of the songs played. The phone is inbuilt with a 3D surround speaker which allows the user to enjoy high quality sound, without plugging the ear phones. The speaker allows hands free talking and multi member listening and talking too.

The 5MP camera of the phone is enriched with Carl Zeiss lens which allows the user to take high quality pictures and videos. The dedicated camera key allows the user to take pictures in a snap. The 20X digital zoom allows the user to take clear picture. The flash when set to automatic allows the user to take pictures even in dim light. The red eye reduction helps to get wonderful portraits and closeups. The photos can be captured automatically too with timesetting. As the phone supports all video formats, capturing endearing moments on the phone is a real experience. The phone supports video blogging(one can send videos to thier blogs directly from their phone) and video streaming and the videos can also be viewed on TV using the TV out cable.

The AGPS navigation feature allows the user to access the maps and one cannot get lost. The menu of the phone is easy to navigate and use which helps even the new time user to use the phone with great ease.

The phone allows conference call with 6 persons at a time. The push to talk feature allows the user to talk to the contacts even when the network is not that clear. The VoIP feature allows the user to enjoy low cost internet calling. The other general features of any model phone is also present in this mobile. Features like SMS, MMS are all helpful to the user when they are unable to pickup a call. The sms text is read by the text to speech software. This feature allows the user to access the texts without reading them.

The battery of the phone gives 5.5 hours of talk time 400 hours of standby time and 29 hours of music listening. This is quite large for a smart phone. Nokia have come up with a wonderful model, which is sure to be a competitor for many of the present 3G models.

Beware all 3G mobile manufacturers. This is a definite competitor.

Review: Ugly N79
Review By: chandra sekhar    Review Date: 24 Nov 2008

Yes, a really ugly design ever from Nokia stable. The sales of N79 is very much down from its launch (source a Nokia reseller). Personally I do not suggest N79 but prefer N85, N96 etc.

Review: Opinion on Nokia N79
Review By: sireesha    Review Date: 16 Dec 2008

Call quality was never an issue with the N79, as it easily lived up to our expectations of a Nokia-branded phone. Ring tones sounded quite loud thanks to the handset.
Despite its current failings (poor video capture, fiddly keypad bottom row, lack of graphics oomph), the Nokia N79 is packed with toys.

Review: A utility phone
Review By: Amit Aier    Review Date: 28 Feb 2009

Nokia is well known for its phone features. This is one of the typical nokias full functional 3G device. The phone has good amount of inbuilt as well as expandable memory. User friendliness is one more character of the Nokia N79 phone. The sound quality is great. The more the functions more is the battery usage, so this makes the battery bigger causing a bulky Nokia N79. I havent found any of the nokia phones elegant they are the macho types. Designing is not nokia pays attention more. So in short it is bulky Nokia phone with power packed features.

Review: Smart phone - Nokia N79!
Review By: Rakesh    Review Date: 03 Mar 2009

My brother bought Nokia N79 few months ago, probably in November for Rs.22939/-. Well, it is is big enough on personality and inspiration. No wonder were eager to see it in action. Yes, I can say that it is a technology powerhouse. There is a full range of multimedia experiences. The best part of this phone is it excuses itself from the company of most recent Nseries devices and makes an impact with its own distinct appearance. Isnt is good?? 4GB memory card is there which sounds an advantage. The convergence of photos, music and navigation is good. The price is too much otherwise me too have bought it till now.

Review: smart and stylish phone!
Review By: Aira    Review Date: 10 Mar 2009

Wow, its really a smart and stylish phone I am using it. Its style is better than N78 I think. Ive owned this phone for two months and found it to be very reliable and performs as advertised. The battery-life is very good for me. Nice design for a candybar phone. Stable in overall, though it can be slow at times (when browsing pictures). Features are top-notch. Also, it has a longer battery life compared to the N95/ N958gb and can easily withstand 3 days whole days of power usage. The N95 needed charging by the 2nd day. In overall, very satisfied with the phone.

Nokia N-series phones are widely known for being rather beastly affairs, with big bodies housing features that make the iPhone 3G look like an £8 Alcatel mobile. But the N79, one of two new high-end cells from the Nokia stable, looks and feels like a solid but unspectacular candy bar from lower down Nokia's extensive range.

both N79 and E71 have the same chipset and CPU clock rate which is a Freescale ARM 11 369 MHz CPU.Phone is fast like Nokia E71 in all Fields
features are good! the looks is bad!
N79 almost like the N82 feature, functionality and performance-wise.

dual LED flash that can serve as a video light,
sound output signal is like 20% louder than the N82 both in headset and the loudspeaker, better numeric keypad (though i feel uncomfortable with the number 2 button because sometimes i accidentally press the down scroll key),
the fm transmitter and last but not the least, its stylish design.
the N82 is better in my opinion.
N79 prove that the N79 has somewhat worse VGA 30FPS video quality.
the N79s VGA 30FPS video is like just a very little bit better than the QVGA 30FPS of the N82
N79 is a very good NSeries with a 5 mp cam, sexy and stylish for a NSeries (blows the N82 miles away), longer music playback time than the N82 (obviously!), louder speakers and listening music through headphones.
the N79 and the N82 have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Nokia takes pride and excels in their designs, features and the futuristic technology usage. The user interface of Nokia is what sets it apart from its competitors and there isnt a better example of swift user interface and quick usage than what is reflected in a Symbian device. N79 is one of the many Symbian devices in the Nokia range and one that comes with superb design and features. Its black coloured casing has a masculine appeal to it and also brings about a distinct shine to the device as it forms a perfection combination with the display screen and plenty of themes that can be downloaded and applied.

The phone has a quadband network support for its 2G services and dual band on its 3G network. The quadband network enables the phone to be used anywhere, that is, locally or internationally. It has dimensions of 110mm (length) by 49mm (width) by 15mm (depth) and has a light body weight of 97 grams. Its light weight is helpful in carrying the phone wherever you want without feeling its bulk hitting you either in the pocket or while carrying it in the hand. Device has a display screen measuring 2.4 inches in size and possessing a resolution of 240 X 320 pixels. This display screen is lightened magnificently with the 16 million colours. Accelerometer sensor for auto rotate acts as an add-on to emphasise the brilliant display technology. This feature allows the screen to be rotated every time the display is tilted. It also is helpful in enjoying videos in a widescreen display.

The 5 megapixel camera can be used to capture immaculate pictures and record videos in superb quality. The quality of the images thus captured is further enhanced by using a Carl Zeiss optical lens, auto focus and LED flash features. Videos are recorded in VGA quality at 30 frames per second. There is also the presence of a secondary camera which again helps in video calling in VGA quality.

Using a Symbian OS 9.3 and part of the Series 60 v3.2 UI and a processor speed of 369 MHz. One can keep check of their location and also get route for their desired destination using the A-GPS support along with Nokia Maps. Java games and applications can be initiated and enjoyed on this gadget. The phone can be connected to a printer and print outs be taken without the usage of a computer. The concept of printing would be pretty much useless without a document viewer as documents need to be read and edited (if necessary). Word documents, spreadsheets, presentations, acrobat reader files can be read on the go.
