 Umiam Lake in Meghalaya
Umiam Lake is a man made lake formed at around 15 kilometers from Shillong the capital city of Meghalaya. This lake is formed at a place where the hydro electric dam has been constructed across the Umiam river stream. This beautiful lake is also known as Barapani, well famous as a picnic spot in north east. This lake is a major attraction of tourist visiting north east India because with its scenic beauty it is also recognized as the water sporting heaven on hills. The sporting facilities available at the Umiam Lake are Kayaking, Water Cycling/Scooting and Boating. Besides these you can have a resort called Orchid Lake Resort lies on the bank of the lake.
