Review: Maruti A Star Review !!!
Review By: Avi    Review Date: 11 Mar 2009

Maruti A star added new feature of power steering to previous ones. Other features are almost same. Car is comfortable to drive. Added AC in car hardly needed. But some things need to work out are like manual control of driving seat, door mirror etc. Paying such cost i guess these and other features should also get included. Car is safe if driver is good otherwise except seat belt there are no other safety.

Review: Maruti A-star - Good looking Car
Review By: K    Review Date: 19 Mar 2009

Maruti A-star the new good looking car from maruti udyog.
It impressed many of customers with its look, its very impressive.
It has lots of good feature, so though the price is more, it will sell

good in india. Mileage is also good as 18 km/litre. It has an all new KB-Series 998cc engine.
But it has a competitor like i10, most of the people prefer to go for i10 rather than A-star.

Review: Maruti A Star - First among new series.
Review By: sasidharakurup v r    Review Date: 15 Sep 2009

Maruti A Star is its new series engine and the new highly finished looks of a premium car.Maruti A Star is the first car in the new modern series of Maruti cars. Maruti has introduced a new look and feel to Maruti A Star. It's entirely different from the looks of other basic models like Alto, Maruti 800, and Maruti Zen etc. The main specialty of Maruti A It has got a good mileage of about 17.1 Km.
It is available in three variants and the price ranges from 3.46 – 4.09 lakhs for its basic model and premium model respectively. There is no automatic gear shifting available in full models. Also LPG gas model is not available for Maruti A Star.
So it's a gift from Maruti to the new generation who want to celebrate there life.
Now the negative points of the car are lack of interior space and low luggage space.

Review: Elegant looks
Review By: bineeta    Review Date: 15 Mar 2011

Recently I bought an A-Star which made me feel very excited. Actually I was lured by the looks of its exterior. It looks really nice compared to other cars from Maruti. But what I found is the space inside the car is not very comfortable. I cannot fit any big luggage more than two for which I was quite comfortably using a Maruti Zen. I am upset for this. However the mileage is good. It gives me more than 17kmpl for now. I hope it will continue to give in the future years too. This is so great I just love this part.

As for the pricing and the features, it seems little irrelevant. Nothing of automatic handling like power window type is not found so, to me this is costly. Anyway the looks are still very attractive unlike the rest of the Marutis'. Before buying one a thorough checking is required for your choice and expectations to suit.

The all-new A-star aka Alto (as it is called Outside India) builds on the strengths of Suzuki's unparalleled knowledge of small-car development. It combines eye-catching style and easy urban mobility with great performance in terms of high fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions. The new compact car offers lightness achieved through downsizing yet provides ample interior roominess and comfort.

For the compact body, Suzuki designer tailored a stylish, sporty and youthful look that simultaneously exudes solidity and urban energy. It is perfectly matched to European tastes and supports a low drag coefficient. With overall higher levels of quality, comfort, and safety, the all-new Alto is a response to the needs of today's motorists.

A-star has replaced the present alto model in other countries. But in India Maruti is selling both the models side by side like they have done before with Wagon R and Zen Estilo.

A-Star is heavily toned down as compared to the Concept A-Star which made its debut in London & was also shown at Auto Expo, 2008 in New Delhi. No doubt that the newcomer is criticised for its looks since it looks as if styling has been taken of the Kia Picanto/Morning, Hyundai i10 and Citroen C1.

An estimated figure of around one lakh units of Maruti A Star will cater to the European Markets under the Suzuki badge, the rest 50,000 units will be sold within India. The A-Star is regarded as one of the most desired projects of Maruti Suzuki India. The Suzuki team has pinned a lot of hope in it.

In fact, the concept of Maruti A-Star is a first for Maruti Suzuki Indias research and development team. Maruti Suzuki has entered into an agreement with Nissan to sell A-Star under the formers brand name in the US market.

In my view some good points-

-> Very Good Mileage.
-> Good Pricing(Around 4.3 to 5.2 Ex-showroom)
-> Comes with Really alot of features for top model esp.
-> Caompany fitted tape in Vxi and Zxi is gud and is well positioned.
-> Ugly and Uncharming looks.
-> Rear Legroom and Swift type cramped rear windows.
-> Small boot.
-> Unattractive interiors.
-> At least 1.1L engine should be there in these segment cars.
-> Headlamps n also Rearlamps r ugly.

Maruti's A-Star is not only an important car for Maruti but even for Hyundai. After the launch of the Hyundai i10, Maruti hasn't had swift sales. However the A-Star is set to change that. The Maruti A-Star has been priced very well and we won't be suprised if it becomes the car of the year either. However its not all that good as it appears.

Surely the A-Star looks cute and uses the latest K series engine but Maruti seems to be missing the point. Well almost. They already have 4 cars in the same segment and they plan to launch the Splash as well. How many small cars will Maruti launch? They should phase out the Wagon R and Zen Estilo.

The A-Star surely is a good car and has the capabilities to take the fight to Hyundai's i10. It looks cute and built quality is better than the Swift. The mid range VXi comes with integrated audio system with remote. However tachometer is only present on the top model. A bit disappointing and looks like an afterthought.

Rear legroom is nothing to talk about either. But then remember this is a small car and targetted towards unmarried bachelors aka the youth and people who want a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th car in their garage.

Boot space is good for a small car and the interiors seem to be a control + c and control + v job from the Swift. The steering, AC vents, gear lever are a few things which are straight lift from its elder sibling. Not that its a bad thing but Grand Vitara owners will feel a bit upset about same.

The A-Star ZXi at Rs. 4.9 lacs OTR, Mumbai is not only expensive but makes me wonder why would i buy a small A-Star for that much money when i can get a Maruti Swift VXi. The VXi variant is going to be selling the most. Overall the A-Star is a car in the right direction for Maruti but it might just not be able to dethrone the i10. Test Drive review to follow, stay tuned.

Was eagerly awaiting for the car to be launched, and when i had a look at the car in the showroom, i felt that this was gonna be a car that I would buy, looked good from the exterior and i had high expectations, but the moment i opened the front door of the car, i realized that maruti have screwed up on the interior part again&hellip&hellip&hellip.. I&rsquom 5ft 11&Prime tall and I had to push the driver seat to the maximum extent to seat my self in the vehicle, the steering is a bit low and I felt that they could have done with tilt\adjustable steering, the passenger seated behind the driver will definitely have a hard time..looks like maruti might have to hire some personnel from hyundai to get the interiors right. There is a waiting period of 6 months. the car wasn&rsquot even available for a test drive. the boot space in the car is very minimal. This car is a big no-no for people who are as tall or taller than me. To summarize my first experience with the A-Star, the car looks good, has a fresh feeling, however, the interior spacing (legroom)suck big time&hellipGot fed up with the Maruti A-Star, went to a Hyundai Showroom in the evening, had a test drive in the i10 and I must say that I was very pleased with its handling and the minimal cabin noise and the interiors of the i10. Booked an i10 1.2 Kappa Magna, gonna get my new car in a couple of weeks&hellipFor all the people who had very high expectations about the A-Star, the car (Vxi at 4.41 lacs on road price bangalore) is still a pretty good deal, but, u might still wanna have a look at the i10 before deciding on the buy. The i10 is a tad expensive than the A-Star, but, I&rsquod rather pay 25-30K more for an i10 rather than buying a Vxi A-Star&hellip

Shocked .man…!!!….so minimal boot space inside.. Even you can't put a normal size suitcase inside.
Frustration continued with rear seat height and lagroom.. if you are above (6ft 10'') you will suffer a head clash with roof on typical Indian bumpy roads. Really got fed up with A-Star, turned back to Hyundai Showroom (Samara Hyundai Delhi).already had a test drive of i10 and I must say that I was very pleased with its handling, built quality and interior. Booked an i10 1.2 Kappa Magna (4.24 on road Delhi), going to get my new car in very next month..

So 4 bachelors ( boot space is quit enough for BEER cans .) who are looking 4 a college fun & city drive with friends A-star is a gud option.

so if you can compromise with space then u can go for A* .
& the best thing that Hyundai people should learn from maruti is : they are providing SRS Airbags , ABS and many other features on the additional cost of 37K only if we compare Zxi with VXi ..
Hope it will start a new trend on indian roads.

as for as milaage is concerned maruti claiming 19.59 kmpl and showroom guys are telling 15-16 kmpl. So we can expect it around 14-15 kmpl in city drive.

The latest addition to the compact cars manufactured by Maruti Suzuki India Limited is A-Star. Launched in the last quarter of 2008, the premium hatchback flaunts unique styling in the exteriors, which sets it apart from the crowd. The car has been equipped with the next-generation K-series petrol engine, which delivers commendable power, torque and mileage. The Penta-drive technology, the highlighting feature of Maruti A-Star, ensures that the occupants enjoy a pleasurable ride in it.

Engine:
A-Star lies a 3-cylinder K10B petrol engine, which churns out a power of 67 PS @ 6200 rpm with a peak torque of 90 Nm @ 3500 rpm. The engine has been equipped with multi-point fuel injection system and stands mated to a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox. It has been developed in such a way so to deliver the best-in-class fuel efficiency. The hatchback promises to deliver a mileage of 19.59 kmpl.

Design And Comfort:
A-Star boasts of an aerodynamic design, with distinctive headlamps, body colored bumpers and newly designed wide radiator grille - in the front and stylish new comet-shaped taillights cluster - in the rear portion. The hatchback offers a comfortable ride to its occupants. The car has a seating capacity of five people, with enough head and leg room for the rear seat occupants.

Ride And Handling:
The Penta-drive technology of A-Star ensures the best drive ever. With a low center of gravity and a wide track width, the car provides a high stability. The speed sensitive power steering ensures good navigation in slow moving urban traffic. The finely tuned suspension system of the vehicle ensures precise handling and enhances riding and driving comfort.

Safety:
The advanced safety system of A-Star ensures that the occupants enjoy a risk free drive, every time they ride in it. The car is equipped with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), which prevents skidding when it is driven on wet surfaces as well as when brakes are applied during emergencies. The Total Effective Control Technology (TECT) of the car takes care of the safety requirements. The rigid body structure of A-Star absorbs impact energy as well.

Coming to the interiors of the car, Maruti has lived up to its image of providing a classy finish with good materials in 2-tone grey in contrast to the beige which would have again gone against the looks of the car. However a problem area that was noticed was that the door pockets were small and the cup holders so incorporated were nothing as compared to those of Zen and Wagon R.

Talking about the spacing, Kudos to the front space leg room, which is more than that of i-10, and can comfortably accommodate a person of any size and any height. It is specially a boon for tall drivers who have to put up great discomfort in small cars. The good news ends right here. The tilt steering and seat Height adjustment are nightmares. Headroom is not as great as the leg room endangering the passengers of any unfortunate accident while passing over any potholes on the road.

If you are the vacationing types, who likes to pack your bags and hit the road for a small get away, this car is definitely not what you would want as the boot is so small (even smaller than its flagship car Maruti 800) that it makes us wonder whether it was made to solve a purpose or has just been put there to complete the design?!!

For a 3 cylinder, the engine at idle is superbly defined given its DOHC Aluminium cylinder head and block

Milege is around 16 KMPL

Review By: Aravindhan    Review Date: 02 Jul 2010

Hi All,

I have always been in love with bikes but with mercury soaring as high as
48 degrees in Delhi, a car becomes a mandate. So the search started. I didn't want to spend more than 4.5 lacs on the car because I have plans to buy a superbike in next 5 years (planning-you seeJ ). I shortlisted several cars within my budget like Hyundai's i10,santro,Cheverlot Spark,Beat,Maruti Ritz,A-star and Alto(CNG).

Beat and Spark were ruled out because of low resale value even though the Chevrolet was offering a lot of freebies. The Santro was in market for long and was running on the same age old technology. The i10 was good option with good resale and new technology. I took the test drive of i10 and I must say it was most refined of all the small cars (except Fabia-petrol). I somehow didn't like the beige interiors of the i10. I think they suit more on Mercs, BMWs or Accords. Also it was the same shape, we have seen on cars for last 10 years almost. So i10 was out of picture.

Moved to Maruti.I never liked the odd rear shape of a Ritz but I must say the space Ritz offered was unmatchable. Took the test drive. Faced some problem with the bumper visibility(even though i am 6'1"). Test drove the A-star then. I liked the look of an A-Star from front. The profile was good as well but the rear was a bit shabby. The engine was refined but still could feel a bit of vibration on the steering. Finally made the choice and an A-star was booked. My basic purpose of commutation in summers and not so good weather was fulfilled.

I now have completed 4000 kms in a month and below mentioned are my finding:

Looks: Mine is a white vehicle. It's definitely a different design for Indian roads. The car is a head-turner specially after fitting the alloy wheels and wide Bridgestone radials. An i10 and a Santro will never get those looks.

Fuel Efficiency: The car after the first service, gives me an average of 16-17 in city with 90% AC on and 17kmph on highways (speed over 100 at more than 90% of time-Delhi-Jaipur & Jaipur-Agra highways). I am sure It would give a better average to a more sensible driver. And I forgot to mention the AC-it is effective in Delhi summers (That sums it all I believeJ )

Stability: The car is very stable at speeds as high as 130 kmph and even with sudden braking doesn't lose the grip. It skids but it skids like a straight rocket not like the Santros, Wagon Rs and Dezires(topsy-turvy) . More like a Swift I must say. The braking is good and with Optional ABS, no situation is dangerous.

Value for Money: Maruti has always delivered value for money cars but this one actually exceeds the expectation. With a price of 3.72(LXi) I got a car that runs well,burns lesser fuel,rated as second most eco friendly car in the world and looks good too. A-star is a steal.
