Avast Antivirus Review The installation is straightforward and despite being free it still contains many features present in other similar paid software. Apart from the standard scanning features it also includes dedicated modules for Email scanning in Outlook / Exchange, and the Bat Email clients, inbuilt protection for IM clients, Internet mail and P2P clients as well as a network shield that blocks certain attacks.
The good: 1) Free: Yes it is free of cost. Download it from this site and then register it to get a one year subscription which can be renewed every year.
2) Good for the home user: It provides a decent level of protection for the home user. It detected all the viruses on my computer.
3) Fast, easy to use and low on system resources.
The Bad: 1) No Script blocking (AVAILABLE IN AVAST ANTIVIRUS PROFESSIONAL EDITION)
2) No rootkit protection (AVAILABLE IN AVAST ANTIVIRUS PROFESSIONAL EDITION).
Overall it is an anti - virus software that does what it does best and offers protection that is almost at par if not greater than other similar software. What more would you want from something that is free.
This is not a security suite like Norton (TM) / Mcafee (TM) Security Suites. So it does not include a firewall, application control etc. This software is good for the home user who does not want to spend money on paid software.
For corporate users it is best to stay away from this one. This is one of the few truly free anti - virus softwares available in the market today.
